Line Fire grows to 26,426 acres, evacuation orders in place. Here's what you need to know
The Line Fire continues to grow in San Bernardino County, forcing evacuations and school closures.
The wildfire was ignited on Thursday, Sept. 5, just north of Highland at Base Line Road and Aplin Street. By the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 10 the fire had jumped to 26,426 acres, with 5% containment, according to Cal Fire.
On Tuesday morning, there were 2,098 personnel assigned to the fire.
The National Guard
On Monday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that National Guard service workers would be used for additional security in Line Fire evacuation areas.
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday announced that the California National Guard will support the state’s ongoing response to the Line Fire in San Bernardino County, Cal Fire reported.
Through its activation and assignment on Thursday, Sept. 12, and authorized under the Line Fire state of emergency, the National Guard will deploy:
Four UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters for water bucket-dropping operations
Two C-130 aircraft with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems
Four 20-person hand crews .
One military police company to support the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department with traffic control points in evacuated areas.

Scheduled power shutoff
Bear Valley Electric Service is notifying customers that Southern California Edison may implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff affecting BVES supply lines.
The shutoff period is from 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.
This precaution is mainly due to high winds and aims to reduce wildfire risk, ensuring community safety during the anticipated extreme weather conditions, SCE officials said.
Customers who require power to operate life-essential medical equipment are encouraged to make special accommodations at this time or dial 911 if they are unable to secure alternative power.

Sunday
On Sunday night, the fire made "short, intense runs" in the slopes and the lighter fuels which caused the fire to grow. Vegetation remains extremely dry, fire officials said on Monday.
Hot and dry weather is expected on Monday with an excessive heat warning in place for the lower elevations of the fire. There is also a chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms throughout the day.

There are 65,600 structures that are still threatened. However, no structures have been reported damaged.
Gov. Gavin Newsom has proclaimed a state of emergency in San Bernardino County, securing federal assistance to support response to the fire. A Damage Inspection Team (DINS) has also been ordered.

The area from Calle Del Rio to Highwy 38, including Greenspot Road North
All underdeveloped land east of Highway 330 to Summertrail Place and north of Highland Avenue
The areas of Running Spring east of Highway 330 and south of Highway 18
The communities of Running Springs and Arrow Bear Lake
The area east of Orchard Road to Cloverhill from Highland Avenue north to the foothills
North of Highland Avenue and East of Palm Avenue to Highway 330
Garnett Street east to the 138 and Mill Creek north to the foothills
The community of Forrest Falls
The community of Mountain Home Village
The communities of Angelus Oaks, Seven Oaks and all campgrounds and cabins in the area
Residents of Big Bear and San Bernardino Mountain communities planning to leave the mountain can take Highway 18 toward Lucerne Valley. Residents should note that Hwy. 18 at the Big Bear Dam is currently closed, as well as Hwy. 38, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Line Fire evacuation shelters
San Bernardino County Fairgrounds building 6, located at 14800 7th St., Victorville
Jesse Turner Community Center, located at 15556 Summit Avenue, Fontana. Residents who have been sheltering at the Emanuel Baptist evacuation location will be relocated to the newly established location at the Jesse Turner Community Center.
An animal shelter has been established at Devore Animal Shelter, 19777 Shelter Way, Devore
Line Fire school closures: Some schools closed as wildfire near San Bernardino roars past 20,000 acres
Line Fire road closures
SR-330 closed both directions from Highland Ave to Live Oak. Fire crews still active in the area. Caltrans crews started assessing damages, and will continue those operations on Monday.
SR-18 closed from Kuffle Canyon to Big Bear dam, in both directions. Evacuations are able to occur, but no inbound traffic is allowed as fire crews are in the area.
SR-38 closed in both directions from Bryant to Lake Williams due to fire spread. Evacuations have begun in that area, and you are able to leave but not return home. Fire crews are in the area and working to stop the fire.
The San Bernardino National Forest has also issued emergency closure orders for forest service lands within and at threat of the Line Fire.

Line Fire smoke affects High Desert air quality
Smoke from the Line Fire has created hazy conditions in the High Desert.
On Saturday, the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District issued an air advisory for potentially poor air quality through at least Monday due to wildfire smoke. On Monday, the advisory was extended through at least Thursday, Sept.12.
Schools
Rim of the World Unified School District: On Monday, district officials stated that schools will be closed from Sept. 9 to 13, or until further notice
Rialto Unified School District officials on Monday said school sites will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Redlands Unified School District: Due to the evacuation notices. all Redlands Unified schools and facilities will be closed for students and staff on Tuesday, Sept. 10. All staff and students will return back to school on Wednesday, Sept.11.
Hesperia Unified School District: Officials said Sunday that due to improving conditions and the current air quality management district level of "Moderate," the district plans to hold normal school hours on Monday Sept. 9, with schools modifying events to limit outside activities.
Victor Elementary School District: Officials are closely monitoring the air quality conditions and currently plan to have school on Sept. 9. As a precaution, the district is activating inclement weather protocols, which means students will be kept indoors and outdoor activities limited throughout the day. All other instructional activities will proceed as usual.
Lucerne Valley Unified: Schools will be open on Monday, Sept. 9, while they monitor air quality. The school district will also monitor air quality for after school activities/sports and make decisions early in the day regarding any possible changes to scheduling.
Barstow Unified School District: All schools will be open Monday, Sept. 9.
Rim of the World Unified School District: Officials have called a non-student day on Monday, Sept. 9 for students and staff.
Bear Valley Unified School District: Located in the San Bernardino Mountains, the Bear Valley district on Sunday night said there will be no school on Monday, Sept. 9. They added that the fire poses no threat to campuses. Earlier in the day, the district reported that schools would not be closed.
Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District: All schools will be closed on Monday, Sept. 9.
Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa will be closed on Monday, Sept. 9. The college will provide updates on whether it will reopen on Tuesday.
San Bernardino City Unified School District: Schools will be open on Monday, Sept. 9.
