Watch: Adrian Dunbar shares hopes for Line of Duty season seven
What did you miss?
Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar has confirmed the cast of the police drama are keen to shoot a new series of the hit show.
The sixth season of creator Jed Mercurio's BBC show aired in 2021 and fans are desperate to see more from AC-12. But so far there has been no word on a seventh run.
Dunbar was quizzed about it during an appearance on ITV's This Morning on Friday (June 14) and admitted that he was crossing his fingers that he'd get to reprise the role of Superintendent Ted Hastings. And he shared that co-stars Vicky McClure (DI Kate Fleming) and Martin Compston (DI Steve Arnott) were hoping for it too.
What, how and why?
Presenter Josie Gibson asked the actor what was happening with a potential seventh series, and he joked: "Well I mean, you know, I can neither confirm nor deny!"
He went on: "We all want it to happen, obviously, so we are all keeping our fingers crossed. Me and Vicky and Martin, really we would love to be back in Belfast again, you know, doing another series.
"But we just have to wait and see."
Dunbar is now appearing in a stage production of Kiss Me, Kate, and shared that his Line of Duty friends would be in the audience. "We are still supporting each other," he said.
Creator Mercurio could be 'beavering away' on new idea
In another interview, the actor teased that Mercurio could even be "beavering away" on an idea for a follow-up to season six, which finally revealed the identity of corrupt officer H.
"We had some great times in the city and… who knows… maybe have some great times again…" Dunbar said on BBC Radio 4's Today programme. "I have to be very careful, because you know, we burn up the internet if we say anything, but I mean the point is that we all want it to happen. So if it were to happen, we'd be really happy."
Asked whether he meant Mercurio too, the star said: "Of course it includes Dr Mercurio himself, who knows he might be beavering away somewhere with an idea, who knows?"
Line Of Duty mini-series?
There have been some rumours about Line of Duty possibly coming back as some sort of mini-series, rather than the usual full series it runs for. Dunbar previously weighed in when he suggested that the next slice of action from AC-12 could be in the form of longer specials.
He told The Times in 2022: "There's a big appetite for more Line of Duty. It could be three or four episodes; I don't think there’s going to be six, for some reason. It might be two 90 minutes. But it’s all entirely down to Jed what the storyline is going to be. It’s a big ask for him."
