LIST: Daytime cooling centers in Portland, Vancouver, Salem metro areas amid heat wave
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Daytime cooling shelters are opening up across the Portland, Vancouver and Salem metro areas on Friday amid an ongoing heat wave across the region, which is expected to see triple-digit temperatures starting Friday.
The National Weather Service’s excessive heat warning started on Thursday, July 4 at noon and is expected to last until Monday, July 8 at 8 p.m.

Officials say forecasts are calling for “dangerously hot conditions with temperatures 100 to 105 expected.” Temperatures aren’t expected to cool off much either after the excessive heat warning expires, according to KOIN 6 Meteorologist Josh Cozart.
Multnomah County
Daytime cooling shelters will be available from noon to 10 p.m. from Friday, July 5 through Sunday, July 7 at the following locations:

According to the county, no one will be turned away from these shelters and pets will also be welcome.
Excessive heat warning prompts two different Oregon, Washington county responses
Meanwhile, two Multnomah County libraries — Central at 801 SW 10th Ave. in Portland and Gresham at 385 NW Miller Ave. — will extend its operating hours until 9 p.m. and will be able to give out bottled water to those in need.
The county also has a number of splash pads, interactive fountains and pools available on its Stay Cool! interactive map.
Washington County
Washington County is providing “no-turn away” 24-hour cooling shelters starting Friday, July 5 at noon until the heat wave ends. The Beaverton cooling centers will remain open through at least Monday, July 8 with the possibility of additional extensions into Tuesday depending on the forecast, the city announced.
