Local choir with members from Louisiana, Mississippi wins first national competition
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Arthur and Friends Community Choir won first place in the large choir division at the national gospel How Sweet the Sound competition in Atlanta, Georgia earlier this summer.
They also received the People’s Choice Award.
Arthur Gremillion is from New Roads. He is the founder and choir director of the award-winning choir. He said they have members from all over Lousiana, including Baton Rouge, Plaquemine, New Orleans, and Mississippi too.
“Winning was such an amazing and humbling experience. I think we’ve put in a number of time, effort and sacrifices in, so winning, we were grateful for it,” said Gremillion.
They will soon celebrate 16 years since starting the community choir. They are inviting the community to an anniversary concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 at Living Faith Christian Center on Winbourne Avenue in Baton Rouge.
