It marks the official start of summer and the longest day of the year.
It happens when one of Earth’s poles is tilted toward the sun at its most extreme angle. Because of the Earth’s tilt, this happens twice a year during the summer and winter solstice.
So how late will the sun be out?
According to FOX 8 Weather, Thursday’s sunset time is 9:04 p.m. (The sunrise time was 5:52 a.m.)
That’s 15 hours and 11 minutes of daylight!
Some local communities will see the sun go down a little bit later.
Local amusement park closes for ‘everyone’s safety’
Toledo’s sun will set around 9:12 p.m. and Sandusky is looking at 9:08 p.m., according to FOX 8 Weather.
Of course, that means after the solstice, days will be getting shorter.
One month from now, it will be about 27 minutes less of daylight.
By July 20, the sun will rise around 6:10 a.m. and set at 8:55 p.m.
