'A lot of excitement': Popular fast food restaurant is set to open in Washington
Washington residents will soon be able to enjoy frozen custard and ButterBurgers closer to home. The city’s only Culver’s location is set to open Monday, March 25 at 10 a.m.
Owner-operator Chris Schoon has spent nearly two decades working at Culver’s – beginning at the location in Morton. Over the years, he worked his way up to management and multi-store positions for various area-locations. This is Schoon’s first experience owning a Culver’s storefront.
“Washington is very excited to be getting a Culver's,” Schoon said. “I have some friends and family that live in the community, and that's all I've been hearing about. So, I get weekly questions and text messages asking, ‘When are you opening? How soon can we come get a ButterBurger?’ And so, there's a lot of excitement in the community, and I'm very excited to be able to serve the community of Washington, as well.”
Before the opening, the nearest Culver’s storefront was located just over 8 miles away at 121 E. Courtland St. in Morton. Other area storefronts are situated in East Peoria and Peoria. A Culver’s store locator can be found at https://www.culvers.com/locator.

What is on the menu?
Classic Culver’s menu items: Known for its staple ButterBurgers and frozen custard, Culver’s also features salads, soups, sandwiches and more.
Flavor of the day: Along with chocolate and vanilla, customers at the Washington storefront will find a different frozen custard flavor each day.
“That always drives a lot of fun in the communities as people figure out what flavor they love best and they'll highlight the day on their calendar to make sure they can come visit that day,” Schoon said.
During opening week, the Flavor of the Day specials include:
Turtle on March 25
OREO Cookie Overload on March 26
Dark chocolate PB crunch on March 27
Lemon berry layer cake on March 28
Really Reese’s on March 29
Salted double caramel pecan on March 30
“We've done a lot of practice this week and a lot of good training, and I think the team is very excited to welcome our guests into the doors on Monday,” Schoon said.
