1 person in Ohio may be holding 2 winning Powerball tickets, says lottery officials
HAMERSVILLE, Ohio (WJW) – A lucky Powerball player in Ohio may be holding not one but two tickets worth $100,000 each.
According to Ohio Lottery officials, two winning tickets were purchased and printed just a couple of seconds apart at Hamersville 1st Stop in Hamersville, a village in Southwest Ohio.
Local couple wins big on scratch-off — twice
Lottery officials said both man-picked tickets matched four out of five numbers correctly including the Powerball and the Powerplay in the Wednesday, Aug. 14 drawing.
“So it appears to be one customer purchasing both tickets, which is common,” said an Ohio Lottery spokesperson.
The lucky player would have won just a mere $50,000, but by also matching the Powerplay they doubled their winnings to $100,000. And then, by purchasing two tickets with the same winning numbers they again doubled their winnings to $200,000.
The odds of hitting the winning combination are less than 1 in 900,000, according to the Ohio Lottery.
The win is just the latest in an Ohio Powerball hot streak.
Earlier this month, the Ohio Lottery said one lucky player’s auto-pick ticket sold at a Northeast Ohio Giant Eagle hit $100,000 in the Monday, Aug. 5 drawing.
