Loudoun County Public Schools monitoring ‘multiple rumored threats’ against school system

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) said it is monitoring “multiple rumored threats” against the school system Wednesday night.

LCPS said it has reported the threats targeting different schools around the county to police who are investigating.

So far, LCPS said schools will continue to operate on normal schedules Thursday because the threats have not been deemed credible, but there will be increased police and security presence on campuses.

“Over the last week, we’ve seen an increase in these incidents, which unfortunately often happens in the aftermath of school shootings,” Superintendent Aaron Spence stated in part in a letter to parents. “Please know that the safety precautions we have in place are working and we remain vigilant, with your child’s safety as our top priority.”

Spence asked parents to talk to their children about the seriousness of making threats towards schools or making them online and to report any “inappropriate behavior or any safety concerns” to school staff.

This comes after school systems in Stafford and Frederick counties also received threats of violence over social media.
