Louisiana man arrested after deputies found over three pounds of marijuana

NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) – A Louisiana man was arrested in connection with a vehicle and foot chase that took place on U.S. 90 last year.

Colby Tyrese Nicholas, 24, of Patterson was charged with aggravated flight from an officer, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, speeding, failure to drive on the right side of roadway, resisting an officer, driving under a suspended driver’s license, fugitive warrant – St. Mary Parish and detainer for probation violations.

The charges stem from a traffic incident that took place on Nov. 15, 2023, near Amelia. The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office said that a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driving west on U.S. 90 that committed a traffic violation.

The sheriff’s office said the vehicle sped away and a chase went into St. Mary Parish before the driver and one passenger fled on foot.

They said the passenger was caught and arrested. Deputies identified Nicholas as the driver and warrants were obtained for his arrest.

Deputies seized 3.6 pounds of marijuana after the chase.

The Morgan City Police Department arrested Nicholas on Thursday, July 11. He was transported to Assumption Parish on Friday, July 12, and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

A bond hearing is forthcoming for Nicholas and he “was ordered held without bond on the probation violation,” according to APSO. Deputies said that “upon satisfying local charges, Nicholas will be returned to St. Mary Parish to answer to the fugitive warrant.”
