Lynda Carter, star of 'Wonder Woman,' endorses Democrats running against her sister

Lynda Carter, who starred as the original Wonder Woman in the 1970s, has endorsed two candidates for the state House of Representatives who are running against her sister.

She said in a statement to Mother Jones that her sister, Pamela Carter, misleadingly claimed to have her “family’s full support.” Pamela Carter is running as a Republican in Arizona’s 4th legislative district, which includes parts of Phoenix and Scottsdale.

“I have known Pam my entire life, which is why I sadly cannot endorse her for this or any public office,” Lynda Carter said in her statement to Mother Jones.

Lynda Carter instead threw her support to Democrats Karen Gresham and Kelli Butler, a former state representative. The two face off against Pamela Carter and incumbent Republican Matt Gress for two open seats this November.

In a statement posted to X on Saturday, Lynda Carter said Butler and Gresham “are both strong, experienced candidates, born and raised in Arizona. They are working mothers, fighting for the rights that matter most to Arizonans, especially every child’s right to a quality education.”

Pamela Carter has pitched herself as an advocate for protecting kids “from radical left-wing agendas” in K-12 classrooms, according to her campaign website. In contrast, she labeled her Democratic opponents as radicals and extremists who fight against parental rights.

"I love my sister even though her politics are very far left and we disagree on some issues. That doesn't change how I feel about her,” Pamela Carter said in a statement. “Everyone would be well served treating each other better, even when we have disagreements over issues, and I'm happy to try to set an example in that regard.”

In statements, Butler and Gresham embraced the endorsement.

"My campaign is about rejecting extremism and working together to build an Arizona where we put our families first, whether it’s protecting access to reproductive healthcare or fighting for every child’s right to a quality education," Butler said. "Our district is crucial to bringing change to Arizona and I am honored to have Lynda Carter’s endorsement."
