Mya Wears Updated Version Of Iconic UNC Jersey Dress Seen In 2000s ‘Best Of Me, Part 2’ Music Video
Mya took fans down memory lane when she performed in North Carolina over the weekend. The multitalented artist is currently on the road for the R&B Experience Music Tour, hosted by DJ AONE, which Tevin Campbell, Monica and Bobby Brown are headlining. For the North Carolina stop, the Grammy winner went the nostalgic route.
For her performance, she wore a bedazzled University of North Carolina basketball jersey dress similar to the one she rocked in the music video for her 2000s song “Best of Me, Part 2,” featuring JAY-Z. The iconic look was styled by fashionista June Ambrose, whom Mya thanked in an Instagram post. “Had to do it one time for #NC ???????? #Charlotte We love you & had a beautiful time at the #RnBMusicExperience @globaleventsproduction ?????? Original jersey dress concept by @juneambrose ????,” she captioned it.
Though the now-iconic track was never a commercial hit on the Billboard Hot 100, it quickly garnered a cult-like following and has since been sampled by several rappers, including Tory Lanez for his 2019 album, Chixtape 5. Fans couldn’t help but reminisce in Mya’s comments section. “All I’m picturing is that ‘Best of Me’ remix music video with Jay-Z ??????” one fan said.
“I use to think I was you singing in this NC jersey so nostalgic ?? You’re still looking the exact same ??” another fan commented.
“I still want one ?????? jersey dresses were everything!!!!!” a third person added.
That’s not the only monumental moment Mya highlighted recently. In April, she celebrated the 25th anniversary of her self-titled album, which spawned the hit singles “It’s All About Me,” a duet with singer Sisqó, and “Movin’ On.” The former track reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
To honor 25 years, Interscope/UMe announced on April 28 that a digitally remastered version of Mya (Digital Deluxe 25th Anniversary) is available on all streaming platforms. The album includes six additional tracks that were previously unavailable on digital streaming platforms.
