After years of lighting up the East River, the nation's largest Independence Day celebration is relocating. For the first time in more than a decade, the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks will be illuminating the New York City skyline from the Hudson River. The 48th edition will feature more than 60,000 shells, plus more than 30 colors and never-before-seen effects.
“Each year, we gather to celebrate summer moments with friends and family—the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks sits at the center of those celebrations and captivates millions of spectators nationwide with breathtaking sights, striking sounds and showstopping performances by iconic artists and musicians, creating the nation’s largest Independence Day celebration and lasting memories,” Will Coss, executive producer of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, said in a statement.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has expressed his excitement about viewing the spectacle from the Garden State's "backyard." He's said, "New Jersey is proud to celebrate Independence Day this year with a dazzling display of fireworks planned in collaboration with our neighbors across the Hudson."
The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, which have been a New York City tradition since 1976, introduced its first-ever live drone show last year. Coss has teased that the "team has been hard at work developing new ways to surprise and delight" fans.
