BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A man is accused of harassing a bus driver and parents who were dropping off their kids around 6:20 a.m. at North Leighton Drive and North Afton Parkway on Monday, Aug. 19 and Tuesday, Aug. 20. He also threatened to shoot the bus driver, the Baton Rouge Police Department said.

Duane Landry, 67, of Baton Rouge, was charged with intimidation and interference in the operation of schools, unlawful disruption of the operation of a school; penalties, aggravated assault with a firearm, firearm free zone; notice; signs, and wearing or possessing body armor, by a student or non-student on school property.

BRPD said after arriving at the scene, they found Landry who was “wearing body armor with three rifle magazines on the front, with a smaller revolver in his front waistband, another firearm strapped to his thigh with the hammer cocked back and a spare magazine next to it, a knife on the front of his vest, a machete style blade in a sheathe on the front left side of his vest, and a can of bear spray and flex cuffs as well,” according to the affidavit.

According to BRPD, Landry said he told the bus driver that she could not block the intersection with the bus. He said he was a commissioner for the subdivision and could ask people to leave, BRPD said.

They said they did not have enough information at the time to press charges against Landry.

BRPD was able to gather more information in the form of statements from the bus driver and kids that were on her bus. Everyone said that Landry “threatened to shoot her, and that she closed the door to the bus on him due to him attempting to get on the bus,” according to the affidavit.
