Man charged with hit-and-run, DWI after crash in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Police arrested a man accused of a hit-and-run crash in Baton Rouge.
Cody Hulseapple, 32, was charged with hit-and-run, operating while intoxicated 3rd offense, reckless operation of a vehicle, flight from an officer, driver’s license suspended, child passenger restraint system and operating while intoxicated; child endangerment law.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said Hulseapple was driving a truck when a crash happened in the 16000 block of Florida Boulevard. He reportedly hit a vehicle and left the scene. According to arrest documents, an officer saw the crash and followed Hulseapple until he stopped on O’Neal Lane at Old Hammond Highway.
The responding officer made contact with Hulseapple and “could smell a faint odor of alcoholic beverage,” according to the affidavit,
BRPD said he did not do well on a standard field sobriety test. After being read his Miranda rights, Hulseapple did not answer any questions.
Police noted that two small children, ages 6 and 3, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. “The 6-year-old was not properly restrained in a booster as required by law,” according to the affidavit.
Hulseapple was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Tuesday, Aug. 20. No bond has been set.
