Man dead after being hit by Amtrak train in Metairie
METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — A man was hit and killed by an Amtrak train in a Metairie train yard on Tuesday, July 9.
Jefferson Parish deputies say the incident occurred in the 6900 block of Stable Drive next to Zephyr field, but details about the man or the circumstances of the situation remain unknown as the investigation continues.
Car crashes into Metairie business
According to Amtrak, the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. when a man was on the track as Amtrak Train 58 was traveling from New Orleans to Chicago. No injuries were reported from the 114 passengers on the train.
Amtrak has continued to work with local law enforcement and Train 58 was able to continue its trip to Chicago around 5:15 p.m. All travelers remained on the train during the three-hour interim period as the investigation occurred.
