Man dead after being struck by Brightline train in Stuart

STUART — A man in his 50s died after being struck by a Brightline train Sunday evening, Stuart police said Monday.

The incident happened after 6 p.m. in the area of Southeast Railroad Avenue and State Road A1A and appears to be a case of a man dying by suicide, according to Lt. Richard Shine, Stuart police spokesperson. The location is just east of U.S. 1 and southeast of the downtown Stuart area.

Shine said the man appeared to have been on the east side of State Road A1A before moving in front of the train.

The man, thought to be a local resident, died at the scene, Shine said.

No other information was immediately available Monday morning.
