Man found guilty of killing coworker at Slidell car dealership in 2022
SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — A Slidell man has been found guilty after a fight turned fatal at a car dealership in 2022.
District Attorney Collin Sims reports that on Friday, Aug. 16, 25-year-old Brian Taylor was found guilty of manslaughter in the fatal shooting of his coworker, 22-year-old Zakary Stewart.

It was established during the trial that Taylor sent Stewart’s girlfriend unwelcomed texts, which caused a feud between the coworkers. Then, on Sept. 16, 2022, the two got into a fight outside of one of the Hyundai Auto Dealership’s service bays.
Security footage from a business across the street showed both men throwing punches. Coworkers were able to separate the two. But according to the district attorney, Taylor ran into the service bay, grabbed a gun and came back.
Coworkers yelled “Don’t do it, Brian, don’t do it.” They began fighting again, and that’s when Taylor aimed the gun at Stewart’s chest and fired at him.

Stewart died at the scene before medical personnel could arrive.
Taylor could face up to 40 years in person for the manslaughter conviction and a mandatory sentence of 20 years in prison for discharging a firearm during a violent felony, the district attorney reported.
His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 4.
