Man killed in shooting on Edgefield Road in North Augusta

One person is dead following a shooting on Edgefield Road in North Augusta.

James L. Wright Jr., 27, of North Augusta was shot at least once and pronounced dead at the scene at 3:46 p.m., according to a news release from the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

Just before 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to 356 Edgefield Road for a shooting, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

A 911 caller reported hearing gunfire while inside a store and an injured male was found by witnesses lying on the ground between two buildings, according to the release.

The man was pronounced dead by Aiken County EMS, according to the sheriff's office. No suspects have been identified.

Wright's body will be autopsied Friday in Newberry, South Carolina, according to the coroner's office.

The North Augusta Department of Public Safety, sheriff's office and coroner's office are investigating.
