Man pleads guilty to fatal shooting in University Heights
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty in connection to a fatal shooting in the city’s University Heights neighborhood in September 2023, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.
Michael Barnes, 37, admitted to shooting and killing 28-year-old Thomas Davis with an illegal gun on the 3011 block of Main Street near Winspear Avenue in the early morning hours of Sept. 12, 2023.
Barnes was arrested a week later and charged with second-degree murder. On Monday, he pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter.
He faces a maximum of 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on Feb. 6, 2025. He is being held without bail.
