Man sentenced to 50 years on child sex crimes in Raceland
RACELAND, La. (WGNO) — A Raceland man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple child sex crime charges on Friday, Aug. 9.
According to information released by the Lafourche Parish 17th Judicial District, the man, 61-year-old James Griffin Jr., was arrested after reports came in from a pre-teen accusing Griffin of sexual abuse.

A second pre-teen victim was also identified during the investigation and child pornography was found in Griffin’s possession. During an interview with law enforcement, Griffin eventually confessed to the crimes.
During the trial, he pled guilty to three counts of sexual battery of a victim under 13 and one count of pornography involving juveniles.
As part of a negotiated plea, Griffin was sentenced to 50 years for each count of sexual battery and 10 years for the child pornography charge. The sentences will run concurrently with no possibility of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
Trial date set for former New Orleans priest Lawrence Hecker
“This plea agreement effectively ensures that Griffin will spend the rest of his life behind bars, sparing the young victims from the potential trauma of recounting their experiences in court,” said Chief of Trials Jason Chatagnier. “We hope this resolution brings some peace and allows the victims to heal and move forward with their lives.”
