MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man giving a co-worker a ride home from work at a nightclub was shot in the hand after a struggle over his gun.

The victim told police he gave a man he knew as Trell a ride home after they got off work on Aug. 21, 2023. He placed his work handgun in the cupholder of his Lexus SUV during the ride.

Cordarius Pearson, aka “Trell,” “Hell Trell” and “Benjamin Button,” picked up the gun to look at it, and a struggle ensued when the victim tried to get it back, police said.

The victim ended up shot in the left hand as they struggled. Pearson told the victim he didn’t mean to shoot him, but when the gun went off a second time, the victim threw it out the window on North Watkins in North Memphis.

Pearson jumped out of the SUV and ran away, but left his cell phone behind, police said.

He was taken into custody Tuesday and is charged with aggravated assault.
