Man shot in parking lot during attempted robbery

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is recovering from gunshot wounds to his legs after being shot during an attempted robbery, police say.

On June 30 at 2:18 a.m., officers responded to a robbery/individual at 5240 Summer Avenue.

They spoke with a male victim who told them that he was near the back of his truck in the parking lot of 5240 Summer Ave. when he was approached by two Black male suspects.

That’s when the suspects allegedly pulled out a firearm and demanded his wallet and keys. The victim said one of the suspects took the key to his truck.

He told officers that as he tried to flee towards 5221 Summer Ave., he heard one gunshot and was struck in the leg.

People in the area say the parking lot is located across the street from a club and is often used for overflow parking by those visiting the establishment.

Per the police report, the victim could not provide any more descriptions of the suspects.

Officers saw gunshot wounds to both of the victim’s legs and he was taken to Regional One in non-critical condition.

“That’s something. That’s really something,” an anonymous man said. “That’s crazy.”

At the scene, officers found a spent shell casing near the rear of the victim’s 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. Blood was also seen near the driver’s door of the truck.

Officers then spoke to a complainant, who told them that he was working as a security guard at 5221 Summer Ave. when he saw a tan/brown four-door sedan make a U-turn on Summer Ave.

He said he heard a gunshot and saw someone run into the tan sedan.

When he went to investigate, he saw the driver’s door of the Dodge Ram was open. He also found the victim at the rear of his truck with gunshot wounds to his legs.

He told officers that the tan sedan fled the scene going westbound on Summer Avenue.
