Man wanted in connection with Georgia homicide arrested at motel near Covington

COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — A man wanted in connection with a homicide in Georgia was arrested at a motel near the Covington area on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reported that 39-year-old Kenneth Hardin got into an argument with his wife on Aug. 20 and, on Aug. 21, allegedly told family members that he “killed his wife in self-defense, burned her body and was leaving town.”

Fayette County deputies said an investigation was launched after Hardin’s father made a report. Detectives then allegedly found evidence at 145 Merlin Ct. in Fayetteville, Georgia, which aligned with information from the report.
On Wednesday, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies said they were notified that Hardin may be at a motel off Highway 21 near Covington after his car was tracked to the area.

STPSO officials said a SWAT team and deputies were deployed to the motel, and Hardin was taken into custody after reportedly being seen leaving one of the rooms.
Hardin was booked into St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center as a fugitive and will be extradited to Georgia.
