Mandeville man sentenced in sexual assault case involving young girl

MANDEVILLE, La. (WGNO) — A Mandeville man has been sentenced after pleading guilty in a sexual assault case involving a young girl.

The Office of District Attorney Collin Sims reported that 49-year-old Colby Shane Maye was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of second-degree rape and sexual battery on Aug. 12.

The district attorney’s office reported that in 2022, the victim, who was 16 years old at the time, told a trusted adult that she had been sexually assaulted years before.

Court documents state that the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified, and an interview was arranged. During the interview, the district attorney’s office reported that the victim disclosed to investigators that she had been sexually assaulted by Maye multiple times over a span of several years. The victim told investigators the sexual abuse stopped when she was about 14 years old.

According to court documents, Maye was found at a hospital and taken into custody.

The district attorney’s office reported that Maye “denied the victim’s allegations” during an interview with detectives.

On Monday, Maye was sentenced to 25 years in prison without parole and will be required to register as a sex offender.
