How many athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics are from Tennessee? Not as many as other states

A handful of Tennessee athletes are ready to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but how many athletes are representing the state?

Livesportsontv.com, a company that provides schedules for streaming and TV sports, recently released a list ranking states by the number of athletes going to the Olympics that were born there. While Tennessee had eight athletes born in the state going to the Olympics, the Volunteer State did not even rank in the top half of the list. But Tennessee also wasn't at the bottom of the list either.

How many U.S. athletes are going to the Olympics?

Team U.S.A. is sending a grand total of 529 athletes to compete in Paris. Of these athletes, California is sending the most with 123.

The ranking wrote, "The state of Tennessee came in 32nd place with 8 athletes heading to this year's Olympics, making it one of the lowest contributors to Team USA. These include athletes taking part in breaking, gymnastics, swimming, weightlifting, basketball, and triathlon."

Arkansas, North Dakota, West Virginia and Wyoming were the only states to send no athletes. Alabama, Alaska, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and South Dakota all sent one athlete each. Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico and Vermont sent two athletes each.

When do the Olympics start and end?

The Olympics officially start on Friday, July 26 with the opening ceremony and end on Sunday, Aug. 11 with the closing ceremony.

The 2024 Paris Olympics will have its opening ceremony on Friday, July 26. The ceremony will take place from 12:30 p.m. CT to about 5 p.m. Forty-five sports will take place over the three week period of the games. In total, 600 athletes from the U.S. are competing.
