How many people voted in the 2024 election in Marathon, Portage and Wood counties?

County and city clerks across central Wisconsin as well as chief election inspectors at polling locations reported high voter turnout on Election Day despite the large amount of absentee ballots already turned in and early-in person voting numbers.

Marathon County Clerk Kim Trueblood said she was hearing turnout was "very high" across the county when contacted Tuesday afternoon by a USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin reporter.

Here are the number of voters who voted in the 2024 presidential election in some of central Wisconsin's largest counties and municipalities, the percentage of registered voters who cast a ballot for the Nov. 5 election and how that compares to previous presidential elections:MARATHON COUNTY ?

  • Total voters: 79,146

  • Percentage of registered voters: 95.04% (This is slightly higher than the 91.27% of registered voters who cast a ballot in 2020, according to Marathon County data.)

WAUSAU ?

  • Total voters: 19,390

  • Percentage of registered voters: 93% (This is nearly the same as 2020 and slightly higher than the 2016 and 2012 presidential elections, Wausau City Clerk Kaitlyn Bernarde said.)

PORTAGE COUNTY ?

  • Total voters: 43,412

  • Percentage of registered voters: The percentage was not provided, but 45,530 people were registered voters in Portage County as of Nov. 1, 2024.

STEVENS POINT ?

  • Total voters: 14,483

  • Percentage of registered voters: 81% (This presidential election voter turnout was slightly higher than some of the previous years, Stevens Point City Clerk Kari Yenter said.)

WOOD COUNTY ?

  • Total voters: 42,432

  • Percentage of registered voters: 95.88% (This was slightly higher than the 91.67% of registered voters who cast ballots in 2020, according to Wood County Clerk Trent Miner.)

MARSHFIELD ?

  • Total voters: 10,307

  • Percentage of registered voters: 98% (That is higher than the 92% of registered voters who cast ballots in 2020 and 88% in 2016, according to Marshfield City Clerk Jessica Schiferl.)
