MAX platform murder suspect surrenders to ClackCo deputy

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Hours after authorities said a homicide suspect may have fled the country, the man suspected of killing a 39-year-old Portlander at a MAX train stop last week turned himself in to a Clackamas County deputy.

Moyasar Osman Mohamed-Ahmed was identified by investigators as the suspect in the killing of Sean K. Smeeden around 8:30 p.m. June 27 at the MAX platform near North Interstate Avenue and North Prescott Street. He was already dead by the time officers arrived.

Investigators said there were no TriMet trains or buses in the vicinity when Smeeden was killed.

Earlier Monday, Portland detectives said the 29-year-old may have “fled the area, if not the country,” and asked anyone who has seen Mohamed-Ahmed to call 911.

Late Monday night, PPB said Mohamed-Ahmed surrendered to the Clackamas County deputy. He was then taken to the Multnomah County Jail and booked for second-degree murder.

The case continues. Anyone with other information is urged to call Portland police.
