Mayville man accused of arson in Jamestown after fire seriously injures victim
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Mayville man was arrested Wednesday and accused of intentionally setting a residence on fire while a victim was inside this past weekend, the Jamestown Police Department announced.
Police said they, along with fire officials, responded to a condemned residence Sunday morning on Fulton Street for a structure fire. A victim was located nearby with serious physical injuries from the fire, as they had to jump out of a second-story window to escape the blaze.
After investigators determined the blaze was an arson, 34-year-old Eric A. Courtier was interviewed as a suspect and was determined to have allegedly set the residence on fire intentionally while knowing the victim was inside, according to police.
The victim was transported to an out-of-area hospital for treatment of their injuries and burns.
Courtier was arrested in Mayville, New York and charged with first-degree arson and first-degree assault. He was arraigned Thursday and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail.
