Meet the 14th Assembly District candidates in the Democratic primary in Tuesday's election

Three candidates are running in the Democratic primary for the 14th Assembly District seat of the state Legislature in the Aug. 13 primary election.

Brady Coulthard, Nathan R. Kieso and Angelito Tenorio will compete in the primary, with the winner facing Republican Jim Engstrand and independent Steven Shevey in the Nov. 5 general election. Engstrand is unopposed in the GOP primary.

The incumbent, Democrat Robyn Vining, is running for the 13th Assembly District seat after new legislative maps put her in the 13th.

The 14th Assembly District includes parts of West Allis, with the Milwaukee County line as the western border.

Here's what to know about the candidates:

Brady Coulthard

Residence: Milwaukee

Political experience: Campaign manager for two state Senate races, former vice chair of College Democrats of Wisconsin

Community involvement: Member of Wisconsin Labor History Society; member of Conrad Gardens Neighborhood Association

Occupation: Owner of a small campaign consulting business

Policies: On his campaign website, Coulthard says his first priority is to increase funding for public schools and reduce the Wisconsin teacher shortage. He highlights community safety as a priority and plans to promote responsible gun ownership and domestic violence prevention programs. Coulthard also supports abortion access and expanded health care options for small business owners.

Nathan R. Kieso

Residence: West Allis

Past political experience: None

Community involvement: Member of West Allis Capital Improvement Committee, executive board member of the Milwaukee Area Labor Council

Occupation: Mental health social worker at Whole Health Clinical Group

Policies: Kieso listed four main priorities on his campaign website: health care, workers' rights, sustainable infrastructure and public education. He's pro-union and will support legislation that allows Wisconsin students to attend technical colleges and public universities at no cost. He also aims to expand access to BadgerCare and ensure quality long-term care for aging and dependent adults.

Angelito Tenorio

Residence: West Allis

Political experience: Former West Allis alderman

Community involvement: Member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard from 2015 to 2018

Occupation: Teacher

Policies: Tenorio's top issue is protecting the environment and fighting climate change. On his campaign website, he advocates for green union jobs and legislation that ensures clean drinking water. Tenorio also supports Medicaid expansion in Wisconsin, reduction of class sizes and enhancement of special education programming.
