Merle Haggard’s former Silverthorn Pizza & Pub destroyed by fire

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A restaurant at a Lake Shasta resort, once owned by Bakersfield country music legend Merle Haggard, was destroyed by fire Sunday night.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said the fire was reported at about 10:30 p.m., at the Silverthorn Resort’s Pizza Pub. Firefighters worked through the night to put out the blaze.

Haggard, who died in 2016, owned the Silverthorn for a period of time in the 1980s, when he lived on a Lake Shasta houseboat, and it became known to Redding area fans as Haggard’s local stage.

Silverthorn’s owners said they plan to rebuild.
