This metro Phoenix breakfast institution is closing after 35 years

The Farmhouse breakfast and lunch restaurant, a Gilbert institution, is closing its doors on June 30 after 35 years.

Mother-daughter team Sylvia and Milli Hilligardt opened the restaurant inside a farmhouse at 397 S. Gilbert Road in 1989. According to The Arizona Republic, after 12 years, they had to move, so Sylvia purchased a 1920 adobe building at 288 N. Gilbert Road, about two miles north of the previous location, and their customers followed.

Over the years, the restaurant has served generations, from their original customers to those customers' kids and grandkids. Pamela Hillisgardt, Milli's sister and the current owner, told Gilbert Sun News that some people ate two of their meals every day at the restaurant.

The Republic reached out to the restaurant's owners for a comment about their decision to close, at the time of writing, they did not respond. Patrons have until the end of June to visit the restaurant one last time for pancakes, French toast, omelets and sandwiches.

Details: 228 N. Gilbert Road, Gilbert. 480-926-0676, farmhouseofgilbert.com.
