New Mexico fire departments sending crews to battle wildfires in Oregon

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Several fire departments in New Mexico are sending crews to Oregon to fight fires in the state. Albuquerque Fire Rescue said they are sending a Type 6 brush truck which is used to help fight fires off roads along with three crew members. They’ll be joined by firefighters from Sandoval County, Santa Fe, Red River, and the Town of Bernalillo as part of a joint strike force. The strike force is being led by Los Alamos firefighters.

There are currently three major fires burning in Oregon including the Larch Creek Fire east of Portland. That fire has burned more than 10,000 acres and is 0% contained causing evacuations in nearby towns. AFR said the strike force will be assigned to a specific fire when they arrive in Oregon.
