Mid-night rumble: SpaceX launches Starlink mission from Kennedy Space Center, Florida

The sky lit up as a Falcon 9 rocket bolted into the clouds. Moments later, a loud rumble sounded throughout the Cape Canaveral area.

After being delayed once, SpaceX's Starlink 10-6 mission lifted off at 1:01 a.m. on Friday, August 2 from Kennedy Space Center Pad 39A. It's payload ? 23 Starlink internet satellites.

Depending on one's location within the Brevard area, the view of the launch was either clear, briefly obstructed by clouds, or washed out by rain.

The launch traveled in a northeast trajectory, appearing to travel upward before making a sharp turn to the north. Within minutes, the rocket vanished from sight ? only the rumble giving remaining evidence of the liftoff.

Just over eight minutes later, the first stage booster landed on the A Shortfall of Gravitas droneship in the Atlantic Ocean. This booster saw its 12th flight ? including eight previous Starlink missions, NASA's Crew-6, O3b mPOWER, and USSF-124.

When is the next Florida SpaceX launch?

The next launch from the Space Coast will see three teams come together for the NG-21 mission.

On Saturday, August 3, a SpaceX Falcon 9 will launch a Northrop Grumman Cygnus spacecraft on a NASA resupply mission. Liftoff is scheduled for 11:24 a.m. EDT from Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 40, and will travel in a northeast trajectory.

The Northrop Grumman Cygnus spacecraft will deliver food, supplies, and science experiments to the astronauts onboard the International Space Station.

This launch will mark Northrop Grumman's twenty-first resupply mission for NASA.
