Military Bowl to award grant to 10 teachers from DMV area
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — For the second year in a row, the Military Bowl and Wegmans are awarding 10 teachers from the DMV with $1,000 grants to support their classrooms.
The Extra Yard for Teachers initiative provides grants to school teachers who are veterans, from military families or serve communities with a large military presence.
“We are excited to once again recognize some of the best in the profession who positively influence the next generation of learners,” Military Bowl Foundation President and Executive Director Steve Beck said in a release.

Last year, 11 teachers from around the DMV — including D.C. and Anne Arundel, Fairfax, Frederick, Prince George’s and Prince William counties — received grants.
“At Wegmans, we believe education creates opportunity, which is why we’ve included education and youth support in our giving priorities,” Chris Holland, community engagement and communications manager at Wegmans, said in a news release. “There are many worthy educators in the National Capital Area that have served our nation and continue to serve our communities, and we encourage everyone to learn more about the program and to submit nominations.”
Nominations for teachers can be made by clicking here through Sept. 30 and will be honored at this year’s Military Bowl game.
This year’s Military Bowl will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8.
