Millersport news: Sweet Corn Festival Queen to be crowned Thursday

The 2023 Sweet Corn Festival Queen’s Pageant will be held beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Brookover-Harlow Pavilion. A panel of judges will select the new Queen and Court from representatives from 17 Central Ohio high schools.

The new Queen and Court will be introduced at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 on the Brookover-Harlow Pavilion prior to the featured entertainment. Chris Cagle will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. At 11 p.m. the Grand Prize Drawing will take place for $10,000.

50th class reunion

The Millersport High School Class of 1973 will celebrate their 50th Class Reunion from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the American Legion Hall, 2557 Canal Drive in Millersport. Walnut Township Trustees

The Walnut Township Trustees held a special meeting Aug. 24 at the Liberty Center in Lancaster. The Fairfield County Commissioners in conjunction with Planning NEXT, a Columbus-based consultant group, shared results of an in-depth planning process and discussed the next steps for townships and villages that are interested in adopting the plan.

Walnut Township Board of Education

The Walnut Township Local School District Board of Education met Aug. 14 in the Laker Learning Center of Millersport High School. Several teachers were present to ask about the status of the elementary school.

The Policy Committee reported on their meeting to discuss the staff Hall of Fame.

Transportation/Maintenance/Custodial Supervisor Bruce Amspaugh reported that all buses had passed inspection, the new software was being used for bus routes, maintenance requests were being fulfilled, the occupancy permit for the pre-school, painting and flooring projects.

Elementary Principal, Kim Yenni, reported on beginning of the year meetings, a writing workshop training, and new students coming into the district.

Megan Terry, Junior/Senior High School Principal, reported on online Summer School data, new social studies and math materials, the need for volunteers for the Sweet Corn Festival booths, and upcoming dates and events. Mrs. Terry thanked Sharon Lawrence for her help as literacy specialist. Mrs. Lawrence has taken her own time to work on the Middle School/High School library this summer.

Mrs. Radulovich reported on collection of forms, fall sports, calamity days, and working on recommendations to remedy the moisture problem in the elementary building.

The Board approved a recommendation for an increase of 3% based on performance of goals for the Treasurer for the 2023-2024 contract year.

Discussion was held on the district goals and board committee procedures.
