Millie Bobby Brown is back on Netflix next year before Stranger Things season five in epic new sci-fi The Electric State, directed by the Russo brothers.

Based on Simon St?lenhag's graphic novel, the new movie is set in an alternate '90s following a war between humanity and robots. In the uneasy peace that followed, Brown's character Michelle sets out to find her missing brother.

Talking to Digital Spy following The Electric State panel at MCM Comic Con on Saturday (October 26), Joe Russo was full of praise for his leading star and the way she managed to carry the movie.

"We adore Millie. I think she's fantastic and there's a very clear reason why she is one of the most recognised stars in the world. There's a charm to her. The talent is beyond obvious, her range is fantastic. She invites you into a story in a way that very few people can," he explained.

"We were fortunate because I met her and her family years ago when they were working on Stranger Things season two because we were down the street shooting Avengers: Endgame. My daughter and her daughter were about the same age and they became friends.

"So I've known the family for years and this was a great opportunity to finally get to work with Millie. It's very hard at her age, she was under 20 at the time, to carry a movie of the scale on your shoulders day in and day out without feeling that pressure and without affecting your performance, and I think she was unflappable.

"I never saw it bother her once you know and she delivers a very fun, funny and heartwarming and sad performance in the film."

Brown's co-star Stanley Tucci also spoke to Digital Spy about his mysterious character in The Electric State, while Russo addressed the changes from the original graphic novel.

"We didn't try to replicate direct imagery from the book, but we did pull characters from it, and pulled tone from it," he explained.

The Electric State is released on Netflix on March 14, 2025.
