Milwaukee County Supervisor Liz Sumner is elected comptroller
Milwaukee County Supervisor Liz Sumner departs the County Board after securing a win for the county's Comptroller position Tuesday.
With 88% of the vote in, Sumner was carrying 65% against entrepreneur to businessman Michael S. Harper's 34%. Harper formerly served as a trustee and chairman of the Milwaukee County Employees Retirement System.
In October of last year, Comptroller Scott Manske announced he would not seek re-election after more than a decade in the role, setting up a spring election.

The comptroller oversees all the county's debt as well as several county divisions, including accounting, payroll administration and auditing. The position pays roughly $130,000 with a term lasting four years.
Sumner threw her hat in the ring shortly after Manske's announcement to not re-run for the position, after having served on the County Board since 2020 as well as the chairwoman of the county's finance committee.
