OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – The Miss Wisconsin competition has been a staple in Oshkosh, but organizers have opted to choose a new home after 61 years.

According to a statement from Brenda Baudo, the executive director for the Miss Wisconsin competition, the event will move from Oshkosh to New Berlin.

“We are so fortunate to have had a home for 61 years,” said Baudo. “This decision wasn’t made lightly and was quite difficult.”

The Miss Wisconsin competition has called six cities in the state home, landing in Oshkosh in 1963. Before that, the competition was held in Milwaukee, Lake Geneva, La Crosse, Reedsburg, and Kenosha.

“There are countless memories and sentimental moments attached to Oshkosh that we will continue to cherish and carry with us,” added Baudo. “However, changing locations has been in the back of our minds for some time due to the growth of our organization and the needs presented by that growth.”

In the statement, Baudo continues by saying that the city of New Berlin, and specifically Mayor Ament, has been a longtime supporter of the Miss Wisconsin organization. New Berlin’s West Performing Arts Center will be the new location.

“West Performing Arts Center is a modern, state-of-the-art facility that can accommodate spectators and support our contestants with current technologies and comforts,” stated Baudo. “The capacity is the perfect size for our audience needs and bodes well for our live streaming events.”

Additionally, being closer to the Metro Milwaukee area provides more accessibility for spectators and supporters who travel from outside the region.

Baudo concluded by saying, “We love this organization and value our volunteers and contestants so much, it was in our best interest to make a decision that would move our organization forward and provide as many opportunities as possible for advancement.”
