Missing 24-year-old swimmer found dead 1.75 miles away on Wisconsin River

SPRING GREEN, Wis. (WFRV) – A 24-year-old Wisconsin man who was swept away by a current on the Wisconsin River and considered missing for several days was found dead on Monday morning.

According to a release, deputies with the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office were notified that a body was located washed up on a sand bar in the Wisconsin River shortly after 8:00 a.m. on Sept. 9, 2024.

A sandbar about 1.75 miles downriver from where a 24-year-old from Richland Center was reported missing on Sept. 1 was the site of a recovery operation. With assistance from the Spring Green Police Department and the Spring Green Fire Department, the man’s body was recovered from the river.

His name is being withheld at this time. This remains an open and active investigation; no additional details were provided.
