DENVER (KDVR) — The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that Paul Peavey, a 57-year-old dog breeder reported missing on Wednesday, was identified as the man found dead on Saturday.
The death had previously been described as “suspicious” and is now being investigated as a homicide.

Peavey was last heard from on Aug. 19 and was reported missing on Aug. 21. A private search party discovered his body on Saturday just before noon.
According to the sheriff’s office, Peavey bred Doberman pinschers. There were reportedly “many” Doberman puppies missing from Peavey’s property – possibly as many as 10 – and their whereabouts are part of the ongoing investigation.
While investigators have not determined a motive for Peavey’s death, the coroner’s office will determine his cause and manner of death. The sheriff’s office said the investigation is in “it’s very early stages.”
The sheriff’s office provided a minor update Monday and asked the public for some help. Specifically, they asked for anyone who has bought a Doberman puppy in the Central Colorado area since Aug. 20 to check if they are microchipped and contact the sheriff’s office.
This is because all of the puppies were microchipped.
Additionally, anyone who purchased a Doberman puppy through Peavey’s business, Elite European Dobermans, since June 2024 was asked to contact the sheriff’s office. In particular, the sheriff’s office wants to know how many puppies are accounted for.
People can contact the sheriff’s office non-emergency number at 303-679-2393 or submit a tip online here.
