More Rutherford County schools to get hygiene vending machines

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Blackman High School Alumna Claressa Ham came up with the idea to provide free hygiene supplies to students.

She used her non-profit, Archie’s Promise, to provide hygiene products to some Rutherford County Schools.

“We have feminine hygiene packs that we actually pack,” Ham said. “We also have packs with a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner.”

However, those are only a few of the products provided in the vending machines. Ham said that the need for products has became so great that her non-profit refills them every week.

The first school to have a vending machine was La Vergne High School. Later, Rockvale and Riverdale High Schools also got vending machines. One of the most recent schools to get a machine was Christiana Middle School.

According to Ham, Archie’s Promise will add vending machines to Smyrna Middle School and Siegel High School. Still, Ham said that she hopes to grow the initiative even more.

“We’re trying to do all of Rutherford County middle schools and high schools, [and we’re] hoping for a partnership with Murfreesboro City Schools and work[ing] on a collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club,” Ham added. “We would put these machines in their Murfreesboro, Smyrna and Shelbyville clubs.”

With plans to keep adding new machines, Ham has asked the community for support. If you would like to support by shopping from the Archie’s Promise Amazon wishlist, please click here.
