Mother and child hospitalized after kitchen fire in Wisconsin
KEWASKUM, Wis. (WFRV) — A mother and her child were taken to a hospital as a precaution after a fire broke out at their home Monday in Kewaskum.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report of an active kitchen fire shortly before 11:30 a.m. at a residence in the 3000 block of Highway 28. An adult resident noticed flames in the kitchen and called 911.

All occupants evacuated the home before emergency crews arrived. Two dogs required assistance to escape. The Kewaskum Fire Department extinguished the flames, but parts of the home sustained significant damage.
According to the preliminary investigation, the woman and her child were home when she heard a popping sound from the kitchen. She found flames and immediately called for help. They evacuated, followed by an upstairs tenant.

The Wisconsin Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents. Highway 28 was closed for about an hour for fire operations.
The fire remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office. No further details were released.
