Motorcyclist killed in Stark County crash: OSHP

STARK COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a motorcyclist was killed and a passenger was seriously injured in a Stark County crash on Sunday.

The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. on State Route 21, near mile post 2 in Bethlehem Township.

According to state troopers, a 2011 Honda CR-V heading north on State Route 21 went left of center, hitting a 2015 Harley Davidson head-on.

Investigators say the Honda went off the side of the roadway and the motorcycle came to a stop in the northbound lane.

The motorcyclist, 47-year-old Rodney Kandel of Millersburg, and a 48-year-old female passenger were taken to Aultman Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to OSHP, Kandel was later life-flighted to Akron City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The 48-year-old passenger was later life-flighted to Akron General Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Neither of them were wearing protective equipment during the crash, state troopers say.

The Honda driver, an 81-year-old Navarre woman, wasn’t injured.

Investigators don’t believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
