National coffee shop chain coming to West Nine Mile Road
Dutch Bros Coffee, an Oregon-based franchise, is building a new location in Pensacola at a site off of West Nine Mile Road.
The new store will be Pensacola's first Dutch Bros Coffee and add to the area's growing list of coffee vendors. The franchise offers a variety of hot and cold beverages in addition to smaller snacks, such as muffin tops and granola bars.
Developers are building the new store on a 0.75-acre parcel with 950 square feet of space inside the coffee shop and a drive-thru lane that partially splits, according to the project’s site plan filed with Escambia County.
The new coffee shop is being developed next to a former Chili’s at 523 W. Nine Mile Road and is expected to have about a dozen parking spaces available. The closest Dutch Bros stores to Pensacola are hundreds of miles away in cities across Alabama, such as Decatur or Huntsville.
Customers won’t be able to access Dutch Bros directly from West Nine Mile Road, instead they’ll have to enter the parking lot of the nearby Home Depot to use the site’s access road.
Developers of the new Dutch Bros applied for approval of its project in December. Its plans were approved a month later by Escambia County’s Development Review Committee on Jan. 31.
What is Dutch Bros Coffee?
Dutch Bros Coffee originated in downtown Grants Pass, Oregon, in 1992 as a pushcart after its founders Dane and Travis Boersma quit the dairy business to begin selling coffee.
After friends, families and locals caught on to Dutch Bros its founders began their plans for expansion, with their first franchise location opening in Oregon during 2000.
Dutch Bros is now working on opening up multiple stores across Florida, including the Pensacola location. There are two Florida Dutch Bros locations up-and-running in Davenport and Clermont.

Six stores across the state, including two in Jacksonville, are still under development according to Dutch Bros. These stores will be located in the following cities:
Orlando
Jacksonville
Pensacola
St. Augustine
Winter Park
Additionally, a new Dutch Bros location is planned for Tallahassee off of West Tennessee Street.
What can I get from Dutch Bros?
Customers can choose from dozens of beverages and flavors at Dutch Bros, whether getting a hot or cold drink. From shakes and smoothies to protein coffee and energy drinks, Dutch Bros has many unique choices whether visiting for the first, or the 50th, time.
Dutch Bros also sells two kinds of snacks. Customers can choose from three different flavors of their muffin tops or have a granola bar to go along with their beverage.
Repeat visitors can receive free drinks, Dutch Bros stickers and other smaller rewards by earning points through their mobile app, which can be downloaded from either the App Store or Google Play.
