Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the new romance series Nobody Wants This, starring The OC's Adam Brody, ahead of its release next month.

Created by Erin Foster, the comedy focuses on the unlikely relationship between Joanne, an outspoken, agnostic woman, and Noah, an unconventional rabbi. Brody plays Noah, and The Good Place star Kristen Bell plays Joanne.

As well as starring in the series, Bell also serves as an executive producer alongside Steven Levitan, who co-created the acclaimed sitcom Modern Family.

All 10 episodes of Nobody Wants This will land on the streaming service on Thursday, September 26.

"From the moment they meet at a friend's dinner party, both can tell there's something between them," reads the official logline for the series.

"But also potentially between them are their differing outlooks on life, all of the modern obstacles to love, and their sometimes well-meaning, sometimes sabotaging families – including her sister Morgan (Justine Lupe) and his brother Sasha (Timothy Simons)."

The hilarious trailer sees Joanne recording a podcast with her sister Morgan, where she admits that she could make "healthier relationship choices".

She then meets rabbi Noah at a lavish dinner party, with the pair quickly beginning a relationship. However, they are soon faced with obstacles, as their families become wary of their choices.

"You have to admit, you are a weird pair. He's responsible, kind," notes Morgan. "Tattoos, thick neck, light criminal record – that's way more your type."

Noah's mum Yulia, who wholly disapproves of his relationship, then secretly warns Joanne that she's "never gonna end up with my son".

As the pair continue to grow closer, they have to decide whether their connection can overcome the odds, with Noah asking: "Is there a world where this works?"

Glee's Michael Hitchcock, GLOW's Jackie Tohn, Joy Ride's Sherry Cola and newcomer Shiloh Bearman round out the cast.

Speaking to TUDUM, Foster explained that she wanted to base the show on her own experience of falling for a Jewish man, which she describes as the "only good decision I ever made".

She added: "I realised that being happy is way harder than being miserable – there's nothing to complain about. So, I created this show based on all the ways that finding the right person can be so hard."
