‘Never stayed this full for this long’: Pet adoptions still needed at Effingham Co. Animal Shelter
EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — Staff members at the Effingham County Animal Shelter say it has now been more than two weeks since their shelter reached capacity — and they are still totally full.
The shelter took to social media to make the announcement more than a week ago. Even after making several pleas, their kennels remain crowded.
“We have never stayed this full for this long, with the intakes not slowing down,” shelter staff told WCIA.

While they urge pet adoption and have two dogs pending possible new homes, they said there are other ways to help if adoption is not an option. Fostering is also encouraged, and can be done by filling out an adoption form.

Dogs with the Effingham County Animal Shelter have adoption fees of $130. They are each vaccinated, heartworm tested, microchipped, neutered, and spayed. They also have flea, tick, and heartworm preventions.
