Newsweek recognizes Piedmont Athens Regional for maternity care

Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center was recently recognized by Newsweek magazine as one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals.

Piedmont in Athens and Piedmont Atlanta Hospital were the only two hospitals in Georgia to receive the recognition by earning five ribbons, according to Newsweek and a news release from Piedmont.

The list featured a total of 404 hospitals across the nation.

“The Piedmont Athens Regional Women’s Service teams consistently provide safe, personalized care to women and their families before, during and after childbirth, and I’m so pleased they have been recognized for their hard work and dedication,” Michael Burnett, CEO for Piedmont Athens Regional, said in a statement released with the news.

Piedmont Athens has an obstetric emergency department reserved for pregnant women experiencing a medical emergency and for babies who need medical intervention after birth, according to the release. The women’s team deliver about 3,000 babies a year.

Newsweek reported that its list is based on a nationwide online survey of hospitals, along with public surveys regarding patient experience, along with Medicare and Medicaid reports.
