When is the next presidential debate? Here's when Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will face off
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris are scheduled to go head to head in a debate this September.
After being stand-offish to the idea of a debate against Harris, Trump finally conceded to face Harris in a debate moderated by ABC this fall. The much anticipated debate between the two political rivals comes after a turbulent summer in which President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, clearing the way for Harris to pick up the mantle and quickly forming a campaign around her and her newly picked running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
“ABC News will host qualifying presidential candidates to debate on September 10 on ABC. Vice President Harris and former President Trump have both confirmed they will attend the ABC debate,” the network said in a statement last week.
Here's a look at when the next debate is, if there will be more and other important dates leading up to election day.
When is the next presidential debate?
Harris and Trump are expected to meet on stage Tuesday, Sept. 10, the same date Trump and Biden were expected to meet for their second and final debate.
Who will moderate the September presidential debate?
ABC's David Muir and Linsey Davis will moderate the Sept. 10 debate, according to ABC. Both Davis and Muir are no strangers when it comes to moderating presidential debates.
Muir has been with ABC since 2003 and is the host of "World News Tonight". He moderated presidential primary debates in 2016 and 2020.
Davis is the anchor on "ABC News Live Prime" and has been with the network since 2007. She moderated presidential debates in 2019 and 2020.
What are the rules for the next presidential debate?
The rules for the next presidential debate have not been released at this time and will be released closer to the day of the debate.
When is the Democratic National Convention?
The DNC is just a short week away. Democrats from across the U.S. and its territories will come together starting Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug. 22, to talk about the upcoming election and what Democrats hope to see in the coming years if Harris wins the White House.
Harris secured the Democratic nomination at the beginning of August after one day of party delegates being able to vote, receiving the majority of votes ? at least 2,350.
"I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States," Harris said moments after she passed the delegate threshold during a Democratic party-sponsored livestream phone call. "Your dedication cannot be overstated. Your dedication to our country. I know we all feel this way so strongly. We love our country, we believe in the promise of America, and that's what this campaign is about."
Who is winning the election 2024?
It's hard to say who is winning the election at this point, but Harris has pulled ahead of Trump in three key swing states according to the latest New York Times/Siena College poll.
The poll, conducted between Aug. 5 and Aug. 9, found that if the election were held today, 50% of voters among the likely electorate in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania each said they’d choose Harris while 46% of the electorate in each state said they’d choose Trump if the two candidates were in a head to head matchup, according to reports from USA TODAY.
Across the United States, Harris leads Trump 42% to 37% in the race for the Oval Office, according to an Ipsos poll published on Thursday.
And according to the poll, Harris has widened her lead since a July 22-23 Reuters/Ipsos survey, where she was 37% to 34% over Trump.
When is election day 2024?
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
