No viable threats identified after 6 Wyoming County Correctional employees exposed to substance
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Six Wyoming County Correctional Facility employees were treated Thursday after allegedly coming into contact with an unknown substance on an incarcerated individual, according to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
No viable threats in connection with the alleged substance and exposure have been identified at this time, according to New York State Police, who responded to the situation.
DOCCS officials said the six staff members at the Attica facility were taken to local medical facilities and eventually cleared for release, with the half dozen employees later returning to duty. An official from the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association said the employees began getting sick after coming into contact with the alleged substance.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to DOCCS.
This is the second incident of this nature in recent days, as 11 officers at Collins Correctional Facility were treated Sunday after they began experiencing sickness while attempting to resuscitate an inmate, according to DOCCS officials. New York State Police said no hazardous drugs or contaminants were identified at the scene.
