BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A local nonprofit hands out bags of life-saving medicine that can help opioid overdose, water, food and other items to people suffering from addiction.

M.O.M.S Booksacks started earlier this year. M.O.M.S stands for Mothers of Misplaced Souls.

Founder Michelle Perck and volunteers will give away book sacks filled with Narcan, hygiene products, toiletries, water and more on Sunday, Aug. 4, under the interstate on Florida Boulevard in Baton Rouge, near the bus station.

“Nobody gives them these type of items. They have to ask for them. They got to try to find them,” she said.

Other supportive agencies will be at the event as well, providing more resource information.
